Ep3: Becoming a Heart-Driven Director with Award-Winning Filmmaker Nicola Rose

In this episode, I’ve invited Nicola Rose, an award-winning filmmaker based in NYC (also a very good friend of mine), to share her journey and stories from transitioning from performing to directing.

We talked about:

  1. How she became a director
  2. The art of directing actors and achieving the best performance
  3. Her journey of making her first feature, etc

Nicola Rose is an award-winning, New York City-based filmmaker whose work is gathering acclaim on the festival circuit. In 2021, Nicola directed her first feature-length film, Goodbye, Petrushka, a coming-of-age comedy. She also produced the film, together with her producing partner Tierney Boorboor. The film will premiere at Dances With Films in Los Angeles in the summer of 2022.

Prior to that, Nicola directed, produced, and/or wrote the shorts Creative Block (2017), In the Land of Moonstones (2018), Gabrielle (2019), and Biff & Me (2020), all of which have won numerous awards on the indie film festival circuit. Most recently, she was invited to show Biff & Me at San Diego Comic-Con International, where she spoke on a panel about the film.

Outside of filmmaking, Nicola has worked as a translator of French, and a freelance casting director, and for a time, a professional puppeteer. She is a graduate of Columbia University and the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle in Paris.
