Ep4: Fear, Control and Creativity

Ep4: Fear, Control and Creativity

In this episode, I start with a recent experience of my pup Lucy’s first audition, and go on to talk about:

  1. How we react to stressful or fearful situations
  2. How expectations put us in “fight or flight” mode
  3. How fear and control zap creativity out of us

You’ll walk away with a hands-on exercise to identify your internal fear triggers and create more inner safety.

What triggers you? What makes you feel threatened? What makes you feel attacked?

Ep3: Becoming a Heart-Driven Director with Award-Winning Filmmaker Nicola Rose

Ep3: Becoming a Heart-Driven Director with Award-Winning Filmmaker Nicola Rose

In this episode, I’ve invited Nicola Rose, an award-winning filmmaker based in NYC (also a very good friend of mine), to share her journey and stories from transitioning from performing to directing.

We talked about:

  1. How she became a director
  2. The art of directing actors and achieving the best performance
  3. Her journey of making her first feature, etc

Nicola Rose is an award-winning, New York City-based filmmaker whose work is gathering acclaim on the festival circuit. In 2021, Nicola directed her first feature-length film, Goodbye, Petrushka, a coming-of-age comedy. She also produced the film, together with her producing partner Tierney Boorboor. The film will premiere at Dances With Films in Los Angeles in the summer of 2022.

Prior to that, Nicola directed, produced, and/or wrote the shorts Creative Block (2017), In the Land of Moonstones (2018), Gabrielle (2019), and Biff & Me (2020), all of which have won numerous awards on the indie film festival circuit. Most recently, she was invited to show Biff & Me at San Diego Comic-Con International, where she spoke on a panel about the film.

Outside of filmmaking, Nicola has worked as a translator of French, and a freelance casting director, and for a time, a professional puppeteer. She is a graduate of Columbia University and the Université Sorbonne-Nouvelle in Paris.

Ep 2: Start Before You’re Ready

Ep 2: Start Before You’re Ready

Welcome to the 2nd Episode of the Creative Genius Captivated Podcast!

In this episode, I talk about:

WHY it’s so important for artists and entrepreneurs to start before you’re ready?

  • Because your brain will always try to protect you by telling you you’re not ready
  • As creatives, we’re always learning, growing, and exploring, and we are more likely to feel not ready
  • Action generates momentum. Overthinking does not.

How do you know you are actually ready, even if your brain tells you otherwise?

  • Trust your gut instincts
  • Evaluate the responsibilities/potential consequences, and ask yourself if you can handle them
  • Embrace the discomfort

The common stoppers:

Identify what stops you ( usually a perceived danger/potential consequence/failure, etc) and ask yourself what you make it mean.

Finally words: Remember, it’s never about the things/goals. It’s about who you become from achieving your goals.

So, just get started!
